How To Find Time To Home School Their Children
By: Joshua Poon
Mothers, imaging spending eight hours at work and when you
get home, there is dinner to prepare, stories to share with
your husband, and doing homework with the kids.
Such a scenario is – and will still be – typical
among working mothers, who balance the countless demands
of career and home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The problem
with this is that the children are the ones who are always
at the losing end.
Why?
Because with parents, especially mothers, who are always
busy with their work, they tend to take their children for
granted especially on the aspect of education. They have
this propensity to submit their children to school and believe
that the institution could provide the best education for
their children.
However, in today's changing world, some parents realize
that sending their children to school is no longer the best
way in providing them the education that their children
need. That's why they have opted for home schooling in order
to give their children the kind of learning that they want
for their children.
In home schooling, most parents devote their time and try
to provide their children the best education at home. They
know that they are the ones who can provide the appropriate
teaching approach for their children because they know their
children best.
It is true that home schooling needs time in order to come
up with the best teaching approach that your children need.
It is also through a committed schedule that you can identify
the appropriate tactics that you need to employ in order
to teach your children well. But it does not mean that you
have to give your whole time to teaching your children through
home schooling programs.
Home school resources - continues
On its basic concept, home schooling uses the "one-to-one"
teaching method; hence, it needs lesser time compared to
the typical classroom setting. This is because with a more
individualistic approach in teaching, most children would
be able to grasp the concept easier and faster.
Then again, the amount of time to be allotted in home schooling
will still vary depending on the many factors that may affect
the progress of the teaching process.
Here is a list of some factors that should be considered
in order to devise the proper amount of time needed in home
schooling:
Learning styles of the children
There are instances wherein the children's learning style
might affect the time requirement in home schooling. For
instance, if your child can learn things at a much faster
rate, then you only have to devote lesser time. However,
if your child needs more time to grasp things that are being
taught to him, then you have to devote more time in explaining
to him or her the concept of the subject matter you are
teaching.
Type of methods used
There are various teaching methods available for home schooling.
Each has its own teaching approach; hence, they may vary
on the time needed for the parents to devote on each program.
The number of children within the family
Just like in a typical classroom setting, where the number
of students is generally bigger, having many children in
the family would mean longer hours of teaching. This is
because you have to incorporate in students what the subject
matter is all about, and if one of them could not yet understand
the idea, then you really have to explain the concept all
over again.
Home school resources - continues
The age of the child
The younger the child, the more time is needed in home
schooling. This is because younger children have the tendency
to grasp the things being taught at a much slower pace compared
to those who are already at higher levels.
The time needed to commit in home schooling are affected
with these factors but the important thing is to have quality
time for your children or students. Find the time to do
what is most important for your children first and the rest
will fall into place eventually.

Homeschooling On a Budget
By: Camilla Ricketts
Homeschooling inexpensively is not an impossible task. With
the volume of information on the internet today it is relatively
easy. You just need to know where to look. Obviously, sites
like National Geographic and The Discovery Channel are invaluable,
but have you ever heard of 42explore? There are a wealth
of educational sites that are adaptable to homeschooling.
Do a search for education k-12 and you will come up with
thousands of hits. Each of these sites have many links to
other interesting sites. The only problem is trying to decide
which site has the best info for you. You can create an
entire curriculum from online resources. Here's an example:
Literature: Gutenberg.org
Math: AAAMath.com
Science: Awesomelibrary.org
History: Besthistorysites.net
Grammar: Eduhound.com
Vocab: Vocabulary.co.il
Spelling: Education-world.com
Geography: Atlapedia.com
Bible Study: Crosswalk.com

I use Gutenberg for 80% of my literature curriculum. We
also get our History, Geography and Science lessons online.
We already have a math worksheet generator.(which you can
also generate online) We don't do spelling, grammar or vocab
drills, but instead incorporate that into our literature
study.
Using the internet can save you lots of money but you have
to make sure you meet your state requirements. The requirements
in our state are pretty easy but some are more rigid. Make
sure you are maintaining the proper documentation for your
state.

As homeschooling becomes more accepted many parents are
beginning to explore the positive aspects of this form of
education. Why homeschool? The benefits include using a
specially designed curriculum for your child, using field
trips to provide educational opportunities and an unlimited
time to focus on a subject until the child understands it.
The typical public school uses institutional learning that
is outcome based. This means that children are taught to
take tests and hopefully pass them.
Public schooling is no longer about learning the ABC's
and 1,2,3's but rather learning to pass state mandated tests
that are designed to test the teacher's abilities. Why homeschool?
The answer is clear- our children deserve more from us.
Most parents are more than qualified to deliver a better
education to their child than their public school can.
The top two reasons to homeschool your children can be
given superior academic opportunities and character development.
Homeschooling is superior to public schooling because it
offers a low student to teacher ratio, instant feedback,
the curriculum is customized, there is greater flexibility
in teaching a subject and there are fewer distractions at
home.
The other benefit of homeschooling is teaching your child
your religious beliefs and parental values. Public schooled
children have to deal with peer values and herd behavior.
Children that are homeschooled are more confident and are
independent thinkers.
A homeschooled success story is Thomas Edison. Why homeschool
this budding genius? He was labeled in the first grade as
disruptive, unruly and developmentally retarded. His mother
recognized the value of a home education and decided to
teach him at home.

People may ask why not just sent a child to a Christian
based school instead of homeschooling? The answer is still
the same. Christian schools, like public schools, have a
limited time to present information, and they are plagued
by the problems that face all teachers. There will still
be disruptive children in the classroom, there will always
be paperwork to grade and negative peer pressure exists
in Christian schools too.
Why homeschool your child instead of accepting the fact
that your child is below average? A painful fact for some
parents is that their child has been labeled early on as
a special education case or incapable of average schoolwork.
If the child doesn't have any medical reason for doing poorly
maybe the parents should be asking if the school is doing
everything they can do to teach their child.
Our public schools simply don't have the manpower to teach
all the special education children. It is easier to let
them slip through the cracks than to figure out a way to
reach a child who is struggling in school. Many teachers
simply don't have the expertise to pinpoint a learning gap
that is causing a child to fail. The parents, however, know
their child better than anyone else.
Homeschooling is a great way to help your child overcome
these gaps, simply because you have the time and drive to
do so.

Resources for Homeschooling Help
By Faithe Thomas
Whether you are new to homeschooling or a seasoned pro,
chances are you’ll always need and be on the lookout
for updated information and material. The good news is there
are literally thousands of resources available on the Internet,
alone.
At the time of this writing, a Google search using the
keyword phrase ‘homeschooling resources’ resulted
in over 3 MILLION hits. You will quickly discover that there
are websites on every topic imaginable, for every age group.
Regardless of your needs, you will have no problem locating
the teaching aids that best meet your requirements. There
are sites that offer low cost or no cost worksheets and
lesson planning materials. There are both vendors and online
schools that offer top-notch curriculum packages and programs
that cater to every budget.
Visit your local library or bookstore. There are many very
informative books which have been written on the subject
of homeschooling. Together with all available materials
on subjects you are planning to teach, putting together
your own curriculum package is probably easier than you
think. If you choose the library option, consider books
that feature worksheets, blank maps and other teaching materials
that can easily be duplicated, for just the cost of making
the copies.

Join a homeschool discussion group or forum. There is a
wealth of great groups out there. You will become acquainted
with families who are new to homeschooling and families
who have been learning at home, for years. Browse popular
online auction sites or sites that strictly sell used curriculum.
You will discover almost every teaching aid youíll
ever need, most at a fraction of the original cost.
Another resource that you might not be aware of is your
local school district. By law, districts must allow homeschooled
children to participate in extra-curricular activities such
as band, sports and drama. The majority of time, you will
be required to provide transportation, but that is a small
price for the benefits your child will receive.
There are several print magazines that are geared toward
homeschooling. They feature write-ups on almost every aspect
of teaching your children, at home. Many of these articles
are written by parents, well versed in regard to homeschooling
methods and more than eager to share their knowledge.

Successful Way To Homeschool Your Children
By: David Riewe
March 12, 2006
Starting a homeschool will involve a lot of research, investigation,
studying and making inquiries before a homeschool begins.
Parents who are looking into homeschooling to educate their
children should find state and local homeschooling groups,
as they will provide the best kind of information on homeschooling
in your area.
On the internet, parents can also discover homeschool websites
wherein it allows you to ask and discuss your options about
homeschooling, as they will provide you with a variety of
information as well as help you get started. The more that
you investigate and communicate with others regarding your
plan to homeschool, the more that you will learn and discover
what you desire and need to do in your curriculum for your
homeschool as well as avoid the common problems that should
come your way in the process.
Homeschooling is a term that is very extensive. There are
several methods that can fit and be measureed under it.
There are numerous different techniques that can be used.
Parents can opt to buy packaged curriculums that exactly
focus on homeschoolers. Some decide to register their kids
in correspondence programs, others acquire and make use
of software and others combine everything.

As parents obtain more confidence as to their homeschooling
capacities, they can decide on a less systematized approach.
When new or inexperienced to homeschooling, discovering
the ideal and exact learning method for your kid will be
a real challenge. Generally, the majority of private as
well as public schools make use of a formal and conventional
curriculum for each student, and as a parent, you might
misguidedly be certain that you have to follow and keep
on with that same course in your home.
Usually, parents start with homeschooling utilizing a complete
set of curriculum package. However, several find the workload
or structure too overwhelming; so they start to experiment
and try out different methods of teaching.
The technique here is to determine a certain method that
can accommodate the learning style of your child. As you
come to be more proficient and knowledgeable and achieve
certainty, you'll find out useful, efficient and effective
teaching and learning tools that will help your family reach
educational independence and freedom.
Traditional and conventional methods of teaching are also
explored here, along with some non-traditional styles and
approaches that might amaze you. As a parent and a homeschooling
teacher, you have several different curriculum options.
Your child will benefit once you are well acquainted with
all of them.
You know your child, so choose the best curriculum that
will meet all his needs. Along with understanding and support,
homeshooling will surely be a success!
It doesnt matter if you just want to explore home schooling
possibilities or have made the decision and are looking
for a guide to point you in the right direction, "The
Parents Guide to Home Schooling" will provide you with
the information you require.
